Configure Drupal for Better Performance

If you own a big website and can;t cope with your existing CMS? I would suggest to move to Drupal. Thousands of developers work on developing this great CMS. However if Drupal is not property configured this could lead to slowness of your website. This article is dedicated how to improve the performance of your website using free web hosting provided by Host1Free.com.It is not enough to install and import your existing website to Drupal, there are many other things to do before you launch your website. Drupal is very advanced CMS that could be used even for blogging. Major disadvantage of Drupal that if you not optimize it it can be dramatically slow.  So, what to do if you want that Drupal work for you fast?Configure Drupal for Better PerformanceFirstly, you should use Yslow tool from Yahoo or page speed test from Google to test your website load time and check what really is causing your website to be slow. After then you will revise the slow queries you will be able to determinate what to do to eliminate them for better performance.  In some cases you can use CDN (content delivery network) to load your website faster from the different location, but if you target your audience in one or two countries I would not recommend to use it. Also what is really good about Drupal, that it has so many plugins/components that you do not need to worry who will develop the actual CDN module to use in your website. So if you will search the required module I am sure that you will find it.
The next steps would be to tune the .htaccess file adding an expire headers, this way the browsers will start to cache the static content (images, text, etc.). Enable Gzip compression to get this loaded quicker. The CPU may increase of web server then you add Gzip compression, but as we have tested that it is better to get things quicker rather than slow, so you are ok to add Gzip in your Host1Free.com free web hosting account as all web servers of Host1Free.com has Gzip enabled.
Try to put all CSS to the top of your header, this way your website will load much faster and JS files to very bottom to load then at very end.
Other thing in regards of your .htaccess fil is to disable ETags for your Drupal, this way the browser will load your website property.  Another good thing what you would need is to minify CSS and JS (I already wrote about it in my previous articles).
You see, Drupal, Joomla or WordPress all optimization works the same way, but it also has some bots that are different from other CMS systems. Majority of the performance is minification, .htaccess and the right free web hosting provider as Host1Free.com.
