How to reset file owner in DirectAdmin?

Reset file owner means you can reset file or directory owner and permissions to default values. You can do this in DirectAdmin File Manager. Once you are there, select appropriate file or directory and click Reset Owner button. After that permissions and user ID with groud ID will be changed to default values.

How to set permissions in DirectAdmin?

In DirectAdmin you can set permissions to files and directories easily. Firstly you need to be logged in. Then go to File Manager or click Files. There you will see file manager with all it’s features. Now to set permission, select decided file or directory and click set Permission button. By default permission value is 755, but you can set another values just by entering permission number instead of 755. Also, there is an option to apply recursive permissions by selecting Recursive checkbox.

What are the ways to manage my files?

There are several ways that you can use to manage your files in Host1Free.

The first one is through DirectAdmin. Once you are logged in to DirectAdmin, click File Manager and you will access all your files and directories. DirectAdmin have major features for managing files and directories: you can edit, rename, copy, set permissions, upload, create, compress, extract your files.

Second way is through FTP. To access it, use one of FTP client software, for example FileZilla. Login details should be emailed to your email. In general, it is ftp.yourdomain.com or ftp.box_number.host1free.com, username – your DirectAdmin username, password – DirectAdmin password. Once logged in you will also access your files and should be able to use all FTP software features to manage your files.

Third way is by using Host1Plus Web FTP client. There you will need to type in your login details. If they will be correct, you will see your files in web based FTP client. There you will also get all features to manage your files.

How do I update a folders permissions with read/write/execute (777)?

You can set read/write/execute (777) permissions on your website files using the DirectAdmin server control panel file manager or FTP client, such as Filezilla etc. See How do I edit my website for more info.
777 permission has the following hierarchy for permissions:
r — file can be read
w — file can be written to
x — file can be executed (if it is a program)
…and for user groups:
Owner
Group
World

Be very careful when changing file permissions as you could prevent your website from working correctly.

How to change files and folders permissions with an FTP client?

You can update any of the file permissions via CHMOD. Most of the FTP clients will allow you to right-click on the file and set all permissions.
