    phpBB notifications mails - allowed?

    Hello.

I am looking for a host for my phpBB forum which I have to move and yours looks very good. So far the only thing that makes me worry is reading that mass mailing is forbidden. This is done in order to prevent spamming I think.

I need to host a phpBB board which should have about 50-100 users in the database, 10-15 of which should be constantly active. The questions are:

    1) Is using mail reply notifications allowed? This can sometimes lead to a considerable amount of mails being sent if many active users have notifications enabled.
    2) Is sending occasionally a mass mail to all users (definitely less than 100 as I said) allowed? This is not spam of course, just the classic "Dear users, please come to post to our wonderful forum!"

Point 2 is something we can live without, point 1 not.

    Thank you!

You have a limit of 20 emails per day here on host1free.

    Thank you for your answer.

Unfortunately this is absolutely not enough for a board mail notification system, so I'm afraid I will have to host it somewhere else... unless I manage to configure phpBB to send mails through an external SMTP server (maybe GMail?). Do you know wether this limit is also enforced for external SMTP connections?

    Thank you.

I have also got a blank page in phpBB ACP and have found another topic where I found out that this is also related to fsockopen(). So could you please enable it for me? Thanks!

OMG, I behaved like the worst of noobs.

    Obviously you need it!

    Domain Name: testtest.vpsq.net
    Temporary Account URL: http://box8.host1free.com/~testte4
As you easily understand this is not my final account, I am using this to test everything (including SMTP mails), and if everything works fine I will delete it and create the final account, so I'll need fsockopen() to be enabled twice.

Thank you in advance and thank you for your help so far.

Hello Linas! Everything seemed to work fine, so I did what I had said: I deleted my account and created the real one, which is "oiaristoi.net" on box6. I need phpBB 3 on it too. Could you please enable fsockopen() on it too?

    Many thanks!
